Skin Pen Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a non-surgical and non-invasive advanced skin treatment that uses a mechanical needling device to create thousands of tiny micro-channels in your skin. This promotes a healing response and stimulates growth factors and fibroblasts to repair and regenerate your skin with the production of new collagen and elastin at a cellular level. This process rejuvenates your skin from the inside out.

Here at Lux Aesthetics, we offer a FDA approved medical microneedling device, the SkinPen. The SkinPen Precision microneedling pen is minimally invasive and helps treat acne scars, scaring, fine lines, wrinkles, melasma, uneven skin tone, stretch marks and more. The outcome is beautiful, youthful looking skin.

What To Expect From Your SkinPen Microneedling Treatment:

Prior To Your Appointment:

  • Avoid Accutane for at least 6 months.

  • Discontinue retinoids one week prior.

  • Avoid sun exposure/burns 2 weeks prior to procedure – including tanning beds.

  • Avoidance of IPL Laser procedures for the past 7 days prior to procedure.

  • No waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis 5-7 days prior to procedure.

  • No topical agents that may increase skin sensitivity (alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), beta hydroxy acid (BHA), tretinoin, retinols, exfoliating masks, or benzoyl peroxide acne products) for 1 week prior.

  • No shaving the day of the procedure.

  • Skin is clean without lotion, oil, makeup, deodorant, powder, perfume or sunscreen.

During Your Appointment:

  • Omit lotions, creams, makeup or deodorant in the area to be treated. Arrive with clean washed skin and inform the medical provider of any changes in medical history and of all medications you are taking. A topical anesthetic cream will be applied before treatment.

After Your Appointment:

  • Immediately after your Microneedling procedure, your Lux Aesthetics professional will provide postcare and a recommended skincare program to maximize your results.

  • Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for 24 hours after your Microneedling procedure. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation.

    Day 1 (24 hours later):

On the next day, you may cleanse your skin as usual and apply any recommended products such as sunscreen.

    Days 2-7:

Within two days following your Medical Microneedling procedure, you will notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer. Follow the instructions given to you by your provider. Days later, your skin will start shedding. These are skin layers that would regularly shed a week later, but the Microneedling brings this skin to the surface at a faster rate. During this temporary process, your skin will shed and be dry. You may use your regular skin care products once your skin is not irritated.

    Day 7:

A week after your Microneedling procedure, most clients will notice that their skin is smoother and more radiant. Continue with sun protection every day and reapply every 2 hours if outdoors.
